RICHMOND ? Delegate Robert G. Marshall's maverick style has Republicans split over whether he is their best candidate to defeat former Gov. Mark Warner in Virginia's U.S. Senate race.
"I support him because he is not a team player," said Shaun Kenney, who recently resigned as spokesman for the state Republican Party. "There are a lot of conservatives who are so disappointed in some Republicans that they are really looking for people who will go to Washington, speak their mind and not go along with the establishment."
A Senate committee rejected legislation yesterday to postpone mandatory vaccinations of sixth-grade girls against a virus that can cause cervical cancer.
The Education and Health Committee voted 10 to 5 to kill a bill by Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William) to delay the mandate from this fall until fall 2010.
In the latest open government clash in Richmond, Delegate Bob Marshall has emerged as an unlikely hero – the lone voice of reason among House Republicans. Marshall,
a fiery social conservative who hails from Prince William County, was
the only member of his delegation to vote in favor of recording
subcommittee votes last week.
WASHINGTON, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Family Research
Council (FRC) criticized the Education and Health Committee of the Virginia
Senate for taking action yesterday to kill HB188, a bill sponsored by
Delegate Bob Marshall (R-District 13). Virginia now has the dubious
distinction of being the only state in the Union requiring girls to be
vaccinated against the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV).
Moira Gaul, FRC's Director of Women's and Reproductive Health, released the
following statement:
This video is very telling in terms of the financial condition our country is in. This video is a wake up call to all citizens to get active and demand the government stop spending our money in an imprudent manner. But we will overcome this challenge if we meet it head on which is what I intend to do if you give me the privilege to serve as your next U.S. Senator.
First off I would work to eliminate the Department of Education. Its budget is roughly 58 billion annually and while it isn't nearly the 10.8 trillion that our debt currently is, it's a start and it's what we need to get going. You can read more about my spending cuts in the issues section.
The leadership abilities of Gene Nichol, president of the College of William & Mary, have recently come under fire by some William & Mary alumni as well as several state delegates who are concerned about the president's decision to remove the historic Wren Chapel cross and allow the performance of the "Sex Workers' Art Show."
For some, the possible denial of federal funding for a proposed Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport is not a setback, but an opportunity.
RICHMOND – In light of the uncertain future of the proposed Metrorail line to Washington Dulles International Airport, several Virginia legislators are looking at other options to help ease the traffic problems in Northern Virginia.
Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall, R-Prince William, voted his principles
rather than the party line on two recent procedural matters.
For this transgression, the House Republican Caucus leadership stripped
him of a committee vice chairmanship and pressured him to step down as
a subcommittee chairman. This practice of punishing lawmakers who break
ranks is referred to as "party discipline."
The following press release was sent out by the National Taxpayers
Union and the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste endorsing
HB 432 which is Delegate Bob Marshall's bill; he is the chief sponsor.
This is yet another example of how Delegate Marshall sticks
to his principles and serves the people of Virginia.
When he says he wants open government, he means it. He believes government should be
transparent. He does not want government
spending hidden from the people who pay the bills. Delegate Marshall believes in having an open,
honest dialogue with the government. The
phrase, "of, by and for the people" means something to Delegate
Marshall and he pledges to continue to keep this important principle a goal of
his U.S. Senate campaign.
We hope you can spread the word about Delegate Marshall. We
look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail. We thank the NTU and CCAGW for its attempts
to preserve open government.
